We call this the \u2018velocity factor\u2019 and it is directly related to the height-to-width ratio of the coil.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Framing Material Selection<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Best: UHMW, HDPE, LDPE, PTFE(Teflon), PP<\/li>\n<li>OK: Polystyrene<\/li>\n<li>Meh: Polycarbonate, Acrylic, Epoxies, PVC, Wood\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>3\/16\u2033 to 1\/4\u2033 thickness works good for coils 3-12in in diameter<\/li>\n<li>Plastic sheeting is usually sized in 12\u00d712\u2033 sections, so cost-efficient diameters are around 5-5.5\u2033 and 11-11.5\u2033<\/li>\n<li>White\/light plastic have lower loss characteristics<\/li>\n<li>Material selection has a higher impact at higher frequencies<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wire selection:<\/h3>\n<p>The general goal here is to get the\u00a0<strong>lowest resistance practical<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously few people can afford 100ft of 0 gauge copper bus-bar to wind a coil, so compromises must be made. So a 1mm wire would be 1.62mm from center-to-center.
